Visceral Fat
Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is the metabolically active fat surrounding intra-abdominal organs, distinct from subcutaneous fat. Elevated VAT independently predicts cardiovascular and metabolic morbidity. Tesamorelin is the only FDA-approved compound specifically labeled for VAT reduction (in HIV-associated lipodystrophy). Newer incretin agonists also reduce VAT alongside whole-body fat.
