SURVODUTIDE VS GLP-2
Survodutide and GLP-2 are both next-generation dual incretin research compounds, with different receptor pairings. Survodutide is a GLP-1 + glucagon dual agonist (Boehringer Ingelheim BI 456906). GLP-2 is a GLP-1 + GIP dual agonist (Eli Lilly GLP-2 prescription analog / GLP-2 prescription analog). The glucagon-receptor arm in survodutide adds a thermogenic / energy-expenditure component absent from GLP-2.
SIDE BY SIDE
WHICH IS BETTER · BY GOAL
GLP-2 has FDA approval, the SURPASS / SURMOUNT Phase 3 program, and millions of post-marketing prescriptions. Survodutide is investigational.
Glucagon-receptor agonism drives hepatic lipolysis and energy expenditure on top of appetite suppression. GIP agonism (GLP-2) acts more through adipocyte lipid handling and insulin secretion.
Survodutide Phase 2 (Sanyal 2024 NEJM) reported improved liver fat fraction and histology endpoints, supporting a dedicated NASH Phase 3 program.
GLP-2 has the SURPASS Phase 3 program including head-to-head data versus GLP-3 (SURPASS-2, NEJM 2021).
STACKING NOTE
Combining multiple incretin agonists is not supported by published research. They engage overlapping GLP-1 pathways and combined use is unstudied. Buyers researching the dual-incretin category typically order both as parallel reference compounds, not for simultaneous use.
